In Onex, the Les Cèdres daycare center has taken up residence in a building steeped in history: the former presbytery of Vieil-Onex, completely renovated to house a new facility dedicated to early childhood. Developed for the Butini Foundation, this project, led by Swissroc, exemplifies a renovation approach that combines the preservation of built heritage, high-quality spaces, and responsiveness to the needs of the local community.

Located opposite the Butini Village nursing home, the daycare center offers 54 places in an environment designed for the well-being of children, staff, and families. The transformation of the existing building has preserved the site’s identity while adapting it to the contemporary requirements of an early childhood center: comfort, safety, functionality, and efficient spaces.

The project is part of a strong local initiative, addressing the growing need for childcare places in the canton of Geneva and, more specifically, in the municipality of Onex. The renovation of the former presbytery offered the opportunity to breathe new life into an existing building, giving it a new social and community purpose, serving families.

Conceived as part of a public-private partnership with the Butini Foundation, the Les Cèdres daycare center also fosters a unique intergenerational dimension thanks to its immediate proximity to the Butini Village retirement home. This location encourages interaction between children and residents, helping to strengthen social bonds and intergenerational dialogue.

Through this renovation, Swissroc supported the transformation of an iconic landmark in Old Onex into a contemporary, sustainable, and environmentally conscious space that harmoniously blends heritage, public service, and quality of life.
